I am a girl who grew up in Brooklyn and spends a lot of time scouring stoop sales. For those unfamiliar with the stoop sale, it is the Brooklyn-style garage sale. The essential and somewhat obvious qualities of a stoop sale: a stoop; a random hodgepodge of clothes, dusty books, old vinyl, mix tapes from the 80′s, tchotchkes, distasteful knickknacks, embarrassing collectibles once hidden beneath your bed, and some of those so-called “finds”; and not to mention, reasonable prices that make Beacon’s Closet look like a rip-off. Essentially, it is along the lines of the old saying, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”
And now, I am trying to make the whole stoop sale thing easier. Instead of relying on pure luck and hand-made signs taped on street lamps, now you can get the word out by posting here.
